HISTORY Formed in January 2002, The Domino Effect is a growing arts and political coalition. The Domino Effects 3 founding members, Nick Hallas, Kara Masi and Jeff Goresen, met in Bridgeport at The Acoustic Café (a place which has become home to The Domino Effect.) On April 27, 2002, the Acoustic Café in Bridgeport hosted The Domino Effects premiere event - showcasing local poets, speakers, artists, organizers, and musicians speaking, displaying and performing works of social, political, economic, and environmental concern. Gaining momentum, the organization held a two-night extravaganza of arts and politics again at the cafe in July. In the fall of 2002, The Domino Effect held it's first voter registration drive, culminating at an event which kicked-off the Black Rock Arts Center in Bridgeport. In addition to a cast of musicians and artists, the event featured voter registration as well as opportunities for attendees to get familiar with local candidates and campaigns. Many of the local candidates from the Republican, Democratic and Green Parties were on site sharing information about their campaigns. Since the premiere event in April, the Domino team has grown tremendously. The Domino Effect has a board of directors, managers and members that contribute to the organizing and coordinating of Domino events and campaigns. The Domino Effect holds open meetings every Wednesday at 7pm at the Acoustic Cafe at 2926 Fairfield Ave, Bridgeport. New members are encouraged to join and contribute!

WHY THE ACOUSTIC CAFÉ? The Domino Effect sees our events and meetings as a great opportunity in which to bring together the wide-ranging efforts and voices of Connecticut. Like many areas in Connecticut, Fairfield County has an incredible diversity in the economic, cultural, and social makeup of its residents. Certain juxtaposition exists in the neighboring cities and towns of Southern Connecticut such as that between Bridgeport and Fairfield, and then between Westport and Norwalk. The Domino Effect is an effort to bring together people from these diverse communities to share their voices and begin to create a strong, cohesive network. The Acoustic Café, which hosted several of our events and acts as our home base for our weekly meetings, is found in the historic Black Rock section of Bridgeport. The Café, located on the border between the Bridgeport and Fairfield communities, makes for a unique opportunity and a fitting venue for the event considering the Domino mission. The Café is also an amazing place, known for its commitment to independent and up-and-coming local as well as national folk, jazz, rock, blues, poetry, and jam band acts. Intimate and oozing with good vibes, the Acoustic Café is a perfect match for the grassroots and homegrown flavor of The Domino Effect. The Domino Effect team would like to thank Rich Franzino of the Acoustic Café for sharing the Café with the Domino community as well as for his support and commitment to the mission of The Domino Effect.
